About Marcus
Marcus was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland in 1993 after graduating from the Queensland University of Technology with a Bachelor of Laws. He is also a solicitor of the High Court of Australia. Marcus joined Robbins Watson in 2000, was appointed associate to the firm in 2002, and was appointed partner in 2004. Marcus has extensive experience in all areas of law and has particularly concentrated on the property and commercial areas, and heads up our Commercial Law department.
Marcus has a busy practice in the transfers of businesses – acting for either Vendor or Purchaser, and taking care of the important, but tricky, details like restraint against future competition, earnouts, the terms of the lease in which the business is conducted, and, of course, the stamp duty implications of any sale. He has acted for large listed companies and handled many complex acquisitions and sales. Marcus also has extensive experience in franchising law, acting for both Franchisees and Franchisors in a wide range of industries.
Corporate structuring, restructuring, and complex share sales have also been a major focus of Marcus' practice.
He also has vast experience in commercial and retail leasing, acting for both landlords and tenants in all aspects of leasing.
General conveyancing has been a major part of Marcus’ work over the years where he has developed an excellent rapport with clients with his down to earth and amiable manner. Whilst concentrating on commercial law Marcus has also had extensive experience in other areas of law, particularly personal injuries claims, and in November 1999 he obtained the then highest ever payout for a claimant in Queensland, being $6.5 million.
Marcus likes to have a hands on approach to all of his work and prides himself on giving his clients the correct advice in a clear and easy to understand manner. He believes that prevention is better than cure and his experience in litigation enables him to identify potential problems in a commercial or property transaction and to take steps to prevent such problems from occurring.
Marcus appreciates that buying a house, signing a lease for a shop, or buying a business can be a stressful time, and his focus is on getting that job done for you, keeping you informed at all times, and ensuring that all goes as smoothly as possible for you.
